Covid-19: Plateau set to be a ghost town

The Plateau State Governor and Chairman, Northern Governors' Forum, Rt. Hon. Simon. Bako Lalong has directed the total lockdown of the entire state, with effect as from midnight, Thursday, 9th April, 2020, to Wednesday midnight, 15th April, 2020.



The governor stated this on Monday 6th April, 2020, during a press briefing with newsmen at the Covid-19 Secretariat, Old Government House, Rayfield, Jos, Plateau State,  with heads of security operatives in the state in attendance.

The total lockdown was to enable the state government to embark on a one week fumigation exercise.

During the fumigation exercise, everyone should remain indoors, and no movement both within and inter states, except for staff on essential duty, such as, security officials, fire service, media, petroleum tankers, vehicle's conveying perishable items, medical and health workers, telecom operatives, power and energy staff.





The governor has warned that it is not going to be business as usual because, security operatives will deal decisively  with anyone who disobey or go against government directives.

According to Lalong, "The state government has purchased additional Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)  monitor's, oxygen thermometer's and other essential drug's".

"Testing of Covid-19 will commence in Plateau in few days ahead", he said.

The state governor said, Plateau State has recorded 48 suspected cases of Covid-19, and which were all shown negative, while 25 were discharged and 8 still under surveillance by health officials.



During the briefing, Lalong  appreciated corporate organizations, privates and individuals who contributed towards the fight against Covid-19 Pandemic.
