Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State has charged all stakeholders in the construction of the multi billion Naira state-of-the-art Cancer Treatment Center in the state capital, to work more closely “towards ensuring that standards are not compromised in the execution of the project”.
He said: “the state government had earlier on engaged a Lead Project Manager and Healthcare development consultant, Messrs Technimed Technologies, Ltd., to directly supervise and run all the affairs pertaining to the construction works as well as supply and installation of equipment”.
During an unscheduled visit to the project site in Kano metropolis, on Sunday night, Dr. Ganduje explained that for efficient functionality of the project to be guaranteed, each of the stakeholders, including government ministries, the contractor and the consultant must play their respective roles, according to the project specification and contractual agreement.
The governor noted that although the project is progressing smoothly, there was the need to make slight structural adjustments to enable the structure to provide more office space for more medical personnel.
He therefore, directed the state Ministry of Works, the Ministry of Health, the project contractor and the consultant to come up with three distinct proposals on how the modification can be made.
“All the proposals must clearly indicate the cost involved, the pros and cons of each proposal and the time frame for completion of the additional civil engineering works.
This would enable the government to make an informed decision”, he stressed.
Dr. Ganduje however, expressed satisfaction with the quality of work done so far and the pace at which it is being executed, hoping the trend would be maintained.
Conducting the governor round, the State Commissioner for Works, Engr.
Muazu Magaji and his counterpart of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Aminu Ibrahm Tsanyawa, focused on the need for minor modification on the project design, to create office space for auxiliary health personnel.
