With the millions of naira invested as counterpart funds by the immediate Governor of Bauchi State, Barr. Mohammed A. Abubakar with the aim to end the perennial water shortage in state, things have change now, from bad to worse, as 80% of the citizens of the state hardly access good hygienic drinking water.
It is on record that during the electioneering period, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed has promised to end the plight of the citizens by looking into the problem, and instead it the governor seems to have swallowed his words, which polical pundits termed it as empty promises by Bala Mohammed.
Recently, some resident of Bauchi state protested and expressed worry over the unfortunate situation of total scarcity of water in many areas, especially the state capital.
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led government of the day, which has vowed to improve water supply in the state, has now turned into an eyesore.
The affected areas includes Wuntin Dada, Madina Quarters, Bayan Old Airport, Yelwan Tudu.
Others are, New GRA, Dutsen Tanshi, Danjuma Goje, Jahun, Kandahar, Railway, unguwar Barno, Karofi, Old Dass Park, Rariya, Wayan Makafi, and Mallam Goje.
Magaji Quarters, Kyaure, Abujan Kwata, Guru, Sabuwar Kaura, Unguwan Mallam Sule, Gudun. Bakaro, Gwangwan, Tudun Yerima, Unguwar Bauchi, Kofar Dumi.
Some residents of the affected areas who spoke to The Headline News said they cannot remember the last time their taps had water.
Mohammed Musa, a resident of Wuntin Dada, said he has never seen water in his place for a long time, while Isa , a resident of Tudun Yerima, an area which is less than one kilometer away from the Emirs Palace also expressed dissatisfaction with the state of water supply in his area.
Isa was specific that in his area he has been without portable water for long.
Accordingly, they called on the government to look into their plight and remedy the situation so that they too can enjoy the dividends of democracy.
Our correspondent further discovered that that almost a billion naira was budgeted for the expansion of portable water by the former APC government in the state, but it seems as if the funds were diverted to to another channel.
The situation is getting worst, as water scarcity in the state has deteriorated.
The danger ahead now is, if prompt action not put in place cholera and other water airborne diseases may soon takeover the state.
